Is anyone using their eyes and common sense any more?

You know, people get all up in arms with this guy Richard Clarke and his statements about President Bush’s administration immediately wanting to go after Iraq after September 11th. People - common sense here!

Does anyone believe a thing that this guy says? He’s trying to sell a book! Of COURSE he’s going to make outlandish statements like that! Of course, let’s lend credence to reality here - Bush DID ask to find a link between Iraq and 9/11. But no one seems to flesh out that whole thought - Bush also asked for a link between Iran and 9/11, the Taliban and 9/11, North Korea and 9/11, etc, etc. Obviously - if you know what happened in October and November of 2001, you know that only one connection was made (at the time). Any discussions of anything that took place AFTER that time period are irrelevant as that is the time period that Clarke is talking about.

And if anyone doesn’t believe that, well, then have fun in pundit land. These are the facts - 1) Clarke is completely unreliable due to the fact that he’s an unknown guy trying to sell a book, 2) the Bush Administration DID want a 9/11 connection, but that was only one request out of many that were made, and 3) anyone bringing up the WMDs in Iraq argument is just trying to play politics because it has nothing to do with what Clarke is talking about.

Oh, and for the record, the whole WMD thing in Iraq - there were no nukes there. Duh. But anyone who denies the fact that there were chemical weapons (which is a WMD) need only to talk to the IRAQIS who had them used against them after the Gulf Conflict of 1991. It’s obvious that they were shipped out to some other country before the American invasion (although we did find some of them) - but another time and place for that.
