Monday marked the beginning of my summer months…looks like it could be a good time.
I had my summer internship meeting today and it went very well. I met with the Executive Director of a Trenton-based nonprofit organization that specializes in bringing commerce and “community” into urban redevelopment areas. They also partner with existing nonprofit organizations that are involved in redevelopment projects to help bring a feeling of local community to their plans. It’s a good group with a good plan.
I will be able to fill my 300 hour requirement with them this summer, but more importantly it is going to be one hell of a learning experience. More or less, I’m going to be out in the field learning - which is one of the best ways to learn a craft. Hey, who knows? After these 300 hours I might be asking them for full-time employment…
They’re shooting me some money for gas and a small stipend at the end of the internship, so I’m going to be enjoying that extra revenue that my bank accounts have been thirsting for!
Speaking of employment, I spent the first day of this week setting the tone for the office at the hotel that I work at. The past few weeks have been very dull and uneventful there between me and my final exams and our general growing pains with purchasing the hotel. However, I told my boss the other day that I’m sick and tired of wasting my time over there so I’m going to work like a champ this week and if the people who work at the hotel don’t like it, then either they go or I go (and I’m not going anywhere).
So part of this employment is running the office at the hotel - which is going to be a ton of fun. Not only because I get to be in charge of a small office, but because I get a cut of the gross gratuities. Fun, eh?
Back tomorrow with more…
