Just when it seems like I’m going to be swallowed alive by the fun little mix of my internship, my part-time hotel job, and my volunteer work there’s something else that pops up to smack me in the jaw!

I got a lovely little e-mail from Rutgers the other day informing me of two things. First, that my final summer internship paper is due next week (with the final grades due on next Friday). And second, that my class’ internship presentations (lucky us, we’re the first ever to have to do this) have been moved up two weeks to the last day of September.

Let’s knock these rats out one at a time, huh?

There’s no possible way that I can get a respectable, publishable 20 page paper written by next week. Sure, I can write a 20 page paper tonight with my eyes closed and without reviewing it score a B+ on it. That’s not a problem. The problem is writing one that is publishable on this level. For that I’ll need a certain format to follow (which I’ll be getting from my advisor this coming Monday) and at least ten or more revisions. Again, this isn’t a hard thing for me to accomplish - I’m beyond the state where I’d say, “Ugh, a twenty page paper!” The problem here is time.

Tomorrow night I’m going camping until Saturday afternoon (short trip) and on Sunday I have meetings until about 4PM. After that, I’m going to be exhausted and just want to pass out.

The second part of this debacle is the presentation component. I have other plans on the last day of September, but I have to change those now. The school claims that they e-mailed the entire class about this change a few months ago, but I don’t recall getting the message. Oh well, I’ll eat the battle on this one and just present earlier. I can do a 20 minute presentation with my eyes closed!

But wait, let’s revisit WHY my paper is due next week…and everyone else who is doing the summer internship has their paper due the first friday of September.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that, huh? I’m one of two people being asked to do the paper two weeks earlier than everyone else! Apparently you’re not supposed to sign up for your summer internship during the summer session. No one told me this! And here’s to common sense, huh?

You’re supposed to sign up for your summer internship during the fall session! Well I guess I should bite the bullet on that one…I mean it’s only common sense to sign up for a summer program during the…fall session…

Right?

Ahhh…and somehow I’M the one that’s wrong here!
