Happy New Year to all…
Well, it’s resolution time again. Here’s a quick look back at last year’s resolutions before I move on. Now, a recap/redefining for this year’s resolutions.
My quasi-diet is still going on. I had an awkward five to six month break/halt in my regular diet because of that gall bladder surgery that I had to go through this summer. For those of you wondering, I got down to a pretty low-weight before that surgery, but after the surgery I was something like slightly over 260 pounds. My lowest weight since Junior year in high school. Weird. By my own choosing, I’ve put back on about twenty pounds since then…mostly out of fear of fucking up my insides again! Hey, it took a while to gain all of that weight that got me up to 380; I don’t mind losing it slower than I did two years ago so I don’t put myself in the hospital again!
So, as for my quasi-diet one of my resolutions is to again reach my weight goals…which I’ll keep private! Until I reach them and celebrate, of course!
Last year I resolved to go to Church more often. Well, sometime in April I decided to start going again and I’ve rarely missed since then! In the coming year, I plan on continuing to attend Church each Sunday. As far as extending that resolution, I guess it would be nice to go to Church on more than just the obligatory Sunday. If I get the chance, I’ll take that up.
Maybe I could get more involved in the Church community…we’ll see if any opportunities come up.
Next to attending Church on a weekly basis, my biggest accomplishment with respect to my 2005 resolutions is achieving a higher level of financial freedom. I resolved in 2005 to be free from at least one of my entrenched debts of my cell phone payment, car payment, or credit card payment.
It’s obvious that I can’t get rid of the cell phone payment, but I have managed to reign in Verizon’s pathetic book-keeping so I actually am paying the same amount each month (whereas in the past the amount I was paying was fluctuating). However, I actually managed to eliminate my car payment and my credit card payment in the last year. Hey, I hoped to get rid of one and I managed to get rid of two! Pretty good on my part, huh?
I also resolved to make better investments and I admit that I haven’t done as well with that particular area of my financial management as I would have liked, but I did open an Orange Savings Account which now has a pretty sweet 3.80% APR. In contrast, my Commerce Bank Savings Account had an interest rate of 0.25%.
Yeah, pathetic right?
I think I made a quarter the entire time that I had my money in the Commerce Bank Savings Account. Since August (when I opened my Orange Account), I’ve made $42.36 in interest. Breaking the bank? No. Better than making a twenty-five cents? Duh!
If anyone is interested in opening an Orange Savings Account, send me an e-mail and I can “refer” you. I make some money on it and you make some money on it, too.
In last year’s resolutions, I resolved to continue doing well in my Master’s Program. At the time, I had 18 of the necessary 45 credits needed to graduate. As I write this, I’ve successfully completed 45 credits, but since I have one remaining 6-credit “required” course to take this spring, I’ll be eligible to graduate then. And you know me - I’m a glutton for punishment…so I decided to take another class in addition to the 3-credit class. Yeah, that’ll have me graduating with 54 credits, when all I really needed was 45. Go me!
Oh, and I did well this past semester, finishing with a 3.9 semester GPA (3 A’s and a B+).
For additional resolutions for the coming year…
I can’t think of too many more resolutions, so that’s enough for now. Besides, this post became a chapter in a novel somewhere along the way! Have a happy and healthy 2006, folks!
