Harry Reid Should Step Down

In a world where Imus was fired from his radio show, Senator Trent Lott had to give up the Senate Majority Leader position, and where Senator John McCain is being lambasted by left-wingers for saying “Bomb Iran,” it is only right that Senator Harry Reid of Nevada apologize for his tyrannical comments and then step down from his position as Senate Majority Leader.
In case you haven’t heard, Senator Reid said that the war in Iraq was lost. His comments as reported by the Boston Globe were:
I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense, and — you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows — [know] this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq yesterday.
That’s disgusting and I find it highly offensive. To say that our men and women in Iraq are losers and that they are fighting a go-nowhere war is not only sanctimonious on the part of this rogue Senator, but it shows you the true heart of the far left people in this country.
Not only has the troop surge quelled the majority of the violence in Baghdad, but the troops already won the war when they accomplished their mission. And for those of you who either can’t or don’t want to remember what that very clear, very direct mission was back in 2003 - it was to depose Saddam Hussein’s government and find weapons of mass destruction.
Saddam is good and dead and hundreds of chemical weapons have been found in Iraq. In fact, the mission WAS accomplished. All of this bullshit that is going on now is the result of an overzealous military campaign led by a Commander in Chief whose eyes had a bigger appetite than his stomach.
But for the love of God, the war isn’t lost and for anyone - including Senator Reid - to say that it IS lost is disgusting. In fact, when there are troops that are fighting against “enemies,” these words are treason.
Harry Reid - step down.

Fuck you! He can say what he wants. If it undermine the dolt in chief so be it. What is treason is how bush lied to get us into this war.

Astute, Bob A Booey.

Thanks! Since when is speaking to power treason anyway? BTW, he said that statement because he was addressing the fact that the war is not going well and it appears that the administration is just treading water until a democrat get in the oval office. That way the repugs can blame the failure on the dems. Even thought the policy was flawed in its scope and especially its execution.

Oh yeah mission accomplished! BTW, what is repugnant and morally reprehensible is prolong the inevitable pullout for political gain. It is blood on Bush and Cheney’s hands.

Hey Joe, you graduated from planning at RU. Are you employed in the field?

I think everyone agrees (at this point) that a withdrawal from Iraq should happen asap. And those scoundrels who equate withdrawing with failure are revisionists who just can’t see reality for what it is.
I graduated with a degree in Planning and Public Policy - my track was Public Policy. I’m employed by a statewide loan fund that brings investment into the underserved areas of New Jersey. Specifically, my job entails financing the facility needs for schools in the state. It’s fun - I get to provide the money that builds classrooms for kids who needs it. Fulfilling work.

Sounds good Joe. Good luck with your career and your house purchase. You should go to the njrereport.com website to help you in buying.
So I don’t see where you are coming from. Reid should quit for stating the obvious and putting the administration on notice that dems wont take the blame for the war?
BTW I got out already today and went for a 6 mile walk on the local rail trail.

As they say, this is an area where we must agree to disagree. You believe that Reid’s statements are stating the obvious and putting the administration on notice that the Dems won’t take the blame for the war. I believe that Reid’s words are treasonous in a time of war. One set of words, two interpretations.
Thank God we live in America where we can have two opinions, huh? We could be over in Iran where one of us would have our tongues cut out!

I agree with you on the the agreeing to disagree. I am just amazed that you are not calling me a traitor. Most people who still support the war are in general authoritarian types who would be very nasty about now. I look forward to dialog with you. You seem to be rational and level headed. Thanks for the forum!
